Congratulations to Poppy O, Steph J (Junior Girls) and Emily S (Senior Girls) who were selected to represent North-East Surrey at the Surrey Schools’ Cross-Country Championships at Priory Park in Reigate last weekend. The girls all ran really well in their respective races – Poppy was placed 23rd and Steph 47th in a field of 85 runners, and Emily was 33rd in the senior race out of 47 runners. U16 Regional Finals
With an eventful morning of traffic, due to the tree down in the lane, we made it to Sevenoaks school on time for our warm up.
All ready to go we then found out that our first opposition had pulled out and weren’t attending. We then decided to scope out the opposition while Sevenoaks played Lancing, whereby a strong second half performance put Sevenoaks 4-0 victors. We reset and went again with our warm up that was much needed in the very windy conditions. We made a slightly nervous start going down 1-0 but that woke the girls up, who fought back with some excellent counter attack opportunities and we were then able to convert to draw level at 1-1, but for this to soon be cancelled out by a Sevenoaks goal just before the half time whistle.
Second half started and we were so much stronger and had some lovely build up plays creating some really good chances, but against the run of play, Sevenoaks scored a 3rd. The game then became very even in the centre of the pitch and we then scored to close the gap at 3-2. Pushing on to get a 3rd we became a little open at the back and Sevenoaks were clinical to make the game 4-2.
Next up we played Lancing in a battle for 2nd place. The game was very even with Lancing having the better of the chances, and after gaining several short corners they scored to take the lead. The girls dug in and, with the arrival of the 7 aside team playing later for extra support, the girls pushed on, created a lot more chances, and were rewarded with a goal taking us to 1-1 at half time.
The second half we continued where we left off and soon took the lead. The game then became a lot more even and played between the two 25s, and then, really late on, a moment of lapse in concentration and a free player on the back post Lancing scored to equalise, leaving the game as a 2-2 draw. This then meant that Sevenoaks were the winners going on to the National Finals and we finished 2nd in the South East Region.

7-a-Side
Following the morning of 11 a side hockey it was then the turn of the 7 a side girls to play. The tournament was a round robin tournament between 5 schools. The girls all played in excellent spirit in extremely blustery conditions, and developed over the day. We had very close games with Sevenoaks and Sir William Perkins but the very closely contested winners and runner ups from Tormead and Highworth were both much stronger teams. A special mention has to go to our GK Alexa who was a real stand out and gained many compliments from the other members of staff.
