It’s been a busy month for alumna Ella Squire – as well as landing her dream job as Podcast Marketing Manager at BBC Studios, she’s been selected as a judge for the British Podcast Awards!
Ella’s recent move to the BBC followed three years at News UK, where she managed the promotion and development of podcasts across brands like The Times, talkSPORT and Virgin Radio. Her new role will see her market and grow the BBC’s podcast output internationally.
Said Ella: “The podcast industry is booming and essentially, my job is to pull lots of levers inside and outside the business to make sure we can reach new audiences globally with the BBC’s world-class audio content. I work closely with all sorts of people, including producers and creatives plus marketing, PR and commercial teams to ensure we align on marketing opportunities.”
The invitation to join the judging panel at the British Podcast Awards follows several speaking engagements at radio industry conferences and speaks volumes about Ella’s fast-growing profile in the world of radio. So what does she think makes an award-winning podcast? “Audio that harnesses the intimacy of the medium to completely absorb the listener,” she said, adding: “and podcasts that utilise their inherent flexibility to achieve what standard radio broadcasts can’t. Most of all, good storytelling is everything!”
