Welcome Back!

We are already off to a flying start in the Prep and Senior Libraries, with students of all year groups eager to take out books. Ever popular are the books written by Roald Dahl including Boy, Matilda, George’s Marvellous Medicine and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Coincidentally, Friday September 13th is Roald Dahl Story Day…

Roald Dahl Story Day celebrates the work and achievements of Roald Dahl. It’s a day when people from all over the world come together to celebrate his magical stories; take part in themed activities, on the day of his birthday.

Facts about Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was born in Wales in 1916. His Norwegian parents named him after a Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen.
His mother sent him to Repton Boarding School in the UK and many of his experiences were recounted in Boy. Pupils were also invited to trial chocolate bars -which later inspired Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
He published forty-eight books – twenty for children and over 250 million have been sold worldwide.
He created 250 new words.
He was also a chocolate historian and medical inventor!
During WW2 he was in the RAF and served as a fighter pilot and spy. He worked at MI6 with the writer of the James Bond books – Ian Fleming. Consequently, he worked on the screenplay for the 1967 movie You Only Live Twice.
He also worked as a screenwriter on the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Roald Dahl died on 23 November, aged 74. He was buried in the parish church of St Peter and St Paul in Great Missenden – the Buckinghamshire village which is the home of The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre.
