Non-Fiction November

We are looking forward to National Non-Fiction November!

“National Non-Fiction November is the Federation of Children’s Book Groups’ annual celebration of all things factual. Born out of National Non-Fiction Day, the brainchild of Adam Lancaster during his years as Chair, the whole month now celebrates all those readers that have a passion for information and facts and attempts to bring non-fiction celebration in line with those of fiction.”

Why Don’t You?

The theme for this year is ‘Why Don’t You?’ which aims to “stimulate discussion about hobbies and leisure activities and to encourage children to try something new.”

First News

This term we have been introducing First News iHub (digital) to Year 7 students.

First News iHub

First News iHub is an interactive, online learning platform, which helps students develop core literacy skills through the exploration of global news stories. The aims of iHub are:
• To use news and current affairs to boost literacy and learning.
• To develop pupil’s word power as they explore words and phrases that have been used in news stories.
• To provide probing questions which encourages pupils to dig beneath headlines of current news stories and to challenge them to develop their understanding by inferring, justifying, questioning and predicting.
Year 7 have been fully embracing this platform, both at home and at school during Librray Lessons. Prizes will be awarded to students after half term who have achieved over 2,000 points in virtual rewards!
