Millions of Years Ago the Earth May Have Had a Ring Like Saturn

Researchers have found evidence suggesting that Earth may have had a ring system 466 million years ago, which challenges what we know about the planet’s ancient history. By studying asteroid impact sites from the Ordovician period, they noticed that 21 craters were clustered near the equator, even though most of Earth’s land was outside that area. This unusual pattern could be explained by a large asteroid coming too close to Earth, breaking apart due to tidal forces, and forming a debris ring—like the rings around Saturn today.
