Science Corner – THE FUTURE OF OZEMPIC

Science Corner - Ozempic

We may have all heard of Ozempic, as it’s what all celebrities are rumored to be using for their miraculous weight loss.
Semaglutide is actually a prescription medication primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults.

This year, the popularity of this diabetes and weight-loss drug has continued to surge, and their potential benefits seem to go well beyond weight loss.
Though the drugs tend to make people feel full and eat less, there’s evidence they may also help treat diseases that affect the heart, kidney, liver and more.

Clinical trials using Ozempic in adults with type 2 diabetes and CKD, achieved:
24% risk reduction of kidney disease worsening, kidney failure (end-stage kidney disease), and
4.9% risk reduction in death due to cardiovascular disease.

Ozempic reduces the risk of kidney function decline, kidney failure and death due to cardiovascular disease.
