Year 13 Kidney Dissection

Y13 Kidney Dissection

On Fri 7th March Year 13 biologists carried out a kidney dissection as part of their A level biology topic on homeostasis.

The students got to work with their dissection kits and were able to identify the different parts including the cortex, pelvis, medulla, and ureter. The girls were also able to locate the microscopic nephrons by adding hydrogen peroxide to the surface of the kidney tissue. This caused bubbles of oxygen to get trapped in the nephrons identifying them.
