MEDIA EXPOSURE IS GOOD NEWS FOR JOANNA

Alumnae Jo Wrigglesworth

A keen interest in current affairs has led to a fast-paced media career for University of Exeter graduate Joanna Wriglesworth.

Just three years after graduating with a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, Joanna is a Senior Account Executive with MHP Group, a London-based communications company which protects, builds and redefines the reputations of leading businesses and organisations, helping them reach new audiences and strengthen relationships with their most important stakeholders.

Joanna specialises in banking, insurance and ‘fintech’ clients and a typical working day will find her monitoring the media for any mentions of her clients and seeking opportunities for them to comment on industry developments. She also pens press releases, briefs journalists, organises clients’ presence at events and writes articles on behalf of senior executives.

It’s a very varied role but one Joanna takes huge pride in: “It’s a real thrill to see a story you’ve worked hard to promote appear in mainstream media” she enthused. A recent example was her client’s commentary on a Bank of England rate cut, which featured prominently on the front page of the Financial Times: “That was a really proud moment,” she added.

Joanna’s favourite part of the job is media relations: “Growing up, I was always interested in current affairs and what went on behind the scenes to create a broadcast speech or news story. Now I’m actually the one writing it! It’s a really exciting career and one I would highly recommend to anyone who loves news, current affairs and writing.”
