ALUMNAE DIAL IN TO ADVISE ON CAREERS

ND6 Career Pathway Session with Alumnae

Our ND6 students were treated to another of our popular Careers Pathway sessions recently, this time featuring alumnae advising on careers in Sustainability and Semiotics.

The sessions – which take part several times each term – enable the girls to get first-hand advice on everything from work experience and volunteering to turning challenges into opportunities.

First to join us online from Sydney, Australia was Caitlin Lynch, who works as an Environmental and Sustainability Consultant for the RED OHMS Group in New South Wales. Caitlin, who left ND6 in 2017, talked about how she chanced upon the Environment and Business degree at the University of Leeds after taking a year out to consider her options post A level. She went on to do a Masters in Sustainability and Consultancy and got a job in just three days when she arrived in Sydney in 2023. The girls heard how helping companies achieve net zero is big business in Australia, providing plentiful employment opportunities. Caitlin also reassured the students that it was absolutely normal not to know what career to pursue in the sixth form and that sometimes, it can take time to find the right path.

Next up was former Head Girl Layla Sanjoori, who also left ND6 in 2017. Now a Cultural Strategist and Semiotician at specialist branding firm Space Doctors, Layla described how she’s using her Anthropology and Cultural Studies degree and the little-known science of Semiotics to advise clients how to keep their brands meaningful and relevant to consumers’ lives. The girls were fascinated to hear how Layla is currently advising brands like Ferrero Rocher and Legoland, and that spending a lot of time on TikTok was an important part of her job! You can read more about her fascinating career here.

Sincere thanks to Caitlin and Layla for giving up their time to talk to the students. We wish them continued success in their careers.
