Whilst most were enjoying a lay in on the first weekend of half term, 54 Year 10 girls were up early to start their Bronze DofE assessment expedition. Meeting at Ockley Cricket Green the girls set out in small groups to navigate the Surrey Hills for the weekend. Now fully prepared to map read and use compass bearings the girls worked really well together, without an instructor, to find each check point. Each group carried full rucksacks of tents, cooking stoves, sleeping bags, clothing as well as food and water.
On the Saturday, they all did very well (with only a few minor detours!) to arrive in to camp in plenty of time to pitch tents and cook a meal together. They enjoyed toasting marshmallows over a campfire and sitting chatting, singing and spending quality time together without screens and phones!
Sunday morning saw the girls up with the lark, cooking breakfast and heading off early. Still in very motivated moods the girls did really well to complete their expedition by late afternoon.
A big congratulations to all girls involved you all did fantastically!
