At the entrance to our school chapel there is a statue of Jesus: the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the Church, Friday is the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In fact, just as the whole of November is referred to as the month of the Holy Souls, and the whole of May is the month of Mary, the whole month of June is sometimes referred to as the month of the Sacred Heart. Whilst the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart has been celebrated throughout the Church for centuries, it is of special significance in parishes dedicated to the Sacred Heart, including here in Cobham. Happy Feast Day to Fr Daryl, all parishioners at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Cobham, and all parishioners in other parishes dedicated to the Sacred Heart!
The Sacred Heart is a reminder of God’s great love for all people. The heart of Jesus is ablaze with love and compassion; a love and compassion so great that it took Jesus to the cross, to death and to resurrection, that sins may be forgiven and that eternal life in heaven may be attained.
For many years when I was a primary class teacher I wrote class assemblies, every one of which finished with the words:
There is no more important message than ‘God loves you.’
God loves you.
God loves me.
God is love.
Thank you God for your love for us all. Thank you God for the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
God bless,
