U13 Girls Surrey Plate Hockey Championships
The U13 ‘A’ Hockey team successfully competed in the Surrey Plate Hockey Championships on Thursday. They came an impressive 2nd place against some really tough opposition. In the first ‘pool’ matches they showed real strength and determination producing a 6-0 win against St. Teresas, 2-0 win against Sir William Perkins and a narrow 2-1 loss against St. Georges. This then took them through to the semi-finals where they had to play the winner of the second ‘pool’ Epsom College. This was a nail biting match with both teams eager to make it through to the final. The end result was 1-1 and went to penalty flicks. Ava G (Gk) bravely and skilfully saved all three penalties against her, and a successful flick by Sophia B meant that we took the place in the final against St. John’s.
The girls fought extremely hard in the final match with some really calm, controlled defence and skilful, resilient attack. The girls really couldn’t have worked any harder and narrowly missed out in becoming the Champions.
I was extremely proud of how well they played, their sportsmanship during and between games and their general comradery – their Silver medal was well deserved.
A big congratulations goes to Sophia B (Captain), Sophia N, Chloe C, Ella T, Emily H, Nicole G, Bronte W, Olivia B and Ava G.
