Mrs Davies launched the Year 6 Financial Literacy Club this week.
This club is designed to get Year 6 children thinking about “Me, my life and my money”.
In our first session, we focused on UK bank notes. Our discussions led us to consider:
What did people do before money was invented?
Why doesn’t the UK government and Bank of England just print loads of money so we can all be super rich?
When will King Charles replace Queen Elizabeth on all our notes?
We took a detailed look at a ‘fiver’ featuring Winston Churchill and a brief look at who else has been chosen to appear on our £10 and £20 notes through time. We also touched on bank note security and counterfeiting – this was such an interesting ‘hot’ topic for us we decided to explore it more during our next meeting.
Our task for next week is to design our own new £15 note. Which UK historian or currently famous UK person would you suggest should be featured on this note and why?
