Last Thursday, the year 12 Spanish students were given the wonderful opportunity to attend a Spanish ‘speed debate’ at Reeds school. We had a fantastic time practicing the language in 2-minute-long debates with students from a number of other schools, discussing chosen themes such as ‘the changing role of women in Hispanic society’ and ‘how idols influence the youth’.
It was incredibly interesting to get to know different perspectives on these issues which we are studying, as we had a chance to talk with a lot of students from many other schools (such as Guildford High and Cobham Free school). It was lovely to be in a room full of people who had a passion for languages, and we had a great time chatting to them all.
Everyone was friendly and there was even a lovely spread of Spanish foods as well for us to try! The staff there were all very welcoming and the experience was overall very fun and beneficial as well. A big thank you to Mr Fernández for organising this trip (and for driving the minibus!) – it is unique opportunities like these which really immerse us into learning the language.
¡Hasta luego!
