Why should you learn Spanish?
This week Year 12 gave a presentation to Year 9 on why to choose Spanish for GCSEs, however there is even more to Spanish than just GCSEs…
After having taken both Spanish and French for GCSE and A-level, I know that this will hugely benefit me in the future, and it can benefit you too!
First of all, choosing/learning Spanish is an opportunity not everyone will get and it must not be taken for granted. In England, languages are on the decline so knowing some Spanish will already put you at an advantage for jobs. Of course, taking Spanish also means that you can work in not only Spain but in parts of South America too like Argentina and Mexico, where you can build friendships with different people.
Spanish is currently the second most spoken language and with over 460 million native speakers, this makes it even more essential for communication.
Additionally, studying Spanish exposes you to rich cultural traditions, including art, music, literature, and food and a huge travel opportunity. Not only will Spanish benefit you personally and professionally, but also it will help your brain in many ways. It has been proven that learning a language improves memory, cognitive flexibility, and problem-solving skills, while also helping delay age-related memory loss like Alzheimer’s.
So, over all it is clear that taking Spanish is a great decision to consider!
